Title:  First Meeting to decide Senior Design project

Meeting Agenda:

1. This meeting will finalize the senior design project

2. All ideas will be considered and the senior design project that best fits our criteria will be chosen.

Discussion and Notes:

Sofian proposed Smart Grids, Rahul proposed Power Line Communication (PLC) and Zahid proposed Mixed Reality/Virtual Reality. The other idea of BACnet with Dr. Hussein Al-Nuweiri was also on the table.

After consideration, the final idea of BACnet was chosen because we originally intended to do a senior design project related to IOT applications. The project of BACnet grasped our attention because of the idea of using Raspberry Pi’s, Machine Learning, Cyber-Physical systems enthralled us.

The following topics were some of the other ideas that were proposed:

1. A Novel Hybrid microgrid Control system under Limited Communication Rates.

2. A Novel Secure and reliable Scheme for Communications of Smart Meters.

3. Investigate the microgrid control With Reduced Communication or Communication Delays.

4. Novel fault-tolerant and self-healing system for Smart grid communications networks.

5. Novel hybrid peer-to-peer communication-based control for the smart grid.

6. Investigate different bandwidths of PLC for different applications

7. Connect the home energy management system with the smart meters using PLC

8. Make a device which can switch between wireless and PL communication for use between substations or smart nodes

Next meeting action items:

1. Hold more meetings with the mentor Dr. Nuweiri on project

2. Start working on the proposal

3. Start working on the presentation
